What is it?
Collagen is a protein that provides structural support to your skin. As we age, the collagen in our tissue deteriorates, causing sagging, wrinkling, and loss of fullness. A dermatologist can inject collagen directly into the areas where you may have lines or wrinkles, restoring the way you used to look years ago.
Who is this for?
It is for people who are concerned about wrinkles around the mouth, the nasolabial folds, the forehead and frown lines, or lines around the eyes. It can also be used to define the edge of the lip to give a crisper line or "white roll,” to reduce vertical lip lines and to help reduce the feathering of lipstick onto the skin.
How does it work?
The collagen is injected just below the surface of the skin, filling in unwanted lines and wrinkles and adding definition to the lip border. Treatment results are immediate and usually last 3 months. Without ongoing treatments, the collagen is gradually absorbed by the body and your face returns to its original contours.Treatment and recovery usually take less than one hour.
Collagen replacement therapy is associated with little to no swelling or bruising. This means that you can come in over your lunch hour for treatment, apply a little makeup afterwards, and go right back to work. In addition, there is a local anesthetic in the collagen product so there is minimal discomfort with the treatment.
